📣David Petrie's Blog:Reflection, Strengths and Weaknesses

Last week, I read David Petrie's blog, which brought me some new thinking about many aspects of English teaching, such as teaching activities and giving feedback.   • Organization and Layout 

Overall, the organisation and layout of this blog is very innovative and flexible: the different blogs are arranged like a jigsaw puzzle on the page, which makes it more interesting for the reader to read. It is worth noting that at the top of the page the author has created a separate column for content other than the blog, such as references, images and links. This layout allows the reader to explore the information they need in depth while not being so conspicuous as to steal the place of the blog, and therefore reflects the author's professionalism while clarifying the priority of the whole page. However, the colour of this section overlap somewhat with the background and therefore may be too subtle, and I think it would work better if they were changed to a lighter colour.



  • Content and Features & Target Audience

First, most of the blogs come with corresponding images on the cover, which makes the page more interesting and not dull. In addition, the headlines of each blog are very clear and concise, which accurately summarize the content of the article. The combination of the headlines and images can help readers find the blogs they want quickly.


Second, the blogs cover a wide range of content, mainly in the area of teaching and learning. There are some personal views that the author discusses in conjunction with academic articles, some teaching experiences, and even educational insights derived from personal life experiences.


In terms of language use, the length of sentences is relatively long and the grammatical structure is more complex when the author try to discuss academic theories, while the complexity of language decreases when the author record the teaching events around him. Therefore, it can be inferred that the target audience of these blogs can be either research scholars with high academic level or practitioners in the education industry such as teachers.


  • Ease of use and Navigation 
The author uses some images in the lines to help the reader understand, but there are not many and the size of the images is small. Perhaps more and larger images could be considered to make the blog more informative and coherent. In addition, there are many inserted links in the blog to explain the source of the images and to facilitate the readers to get more information, which reflects the rigor of the blog.



Summary
In summary, these blogs present the reader with the authors' unique teaching experiences as well as reflections and insights. After reading them, I have not only seen some novel teaching activities, but also gained some initial understanding of making blogs. I will continue to explore this area and record my gains and perspectives here in a blog format. If you are interested in my insights, please feel free to follow me.
